Broker Frauds

The various types of securities broker frauds including misrepresentations, omissions of material facts, churning, investing in unsuitable securities, and overconcentrating investments in a single company or industry. Brokers may also commit fraud by taking risks with investment funds, without the investor's authorization or knowledge, or by pouring an investor's assets primarily into a single corporation or industry, usually in order to provide some personal financial gain for broker, either through kickbacks or increased commission rates. In order to avoid complaints of fraud, brokers should be sure to fully disclose and explain all material facts regarding the different types of proposed investments to the investor, and first obtain his or her permission to invest the assets as proposed, prior to actually doing so. Furthermore, an ethical broker should be aware of the investor's long and short-term financial goals, whether the investor is looking to maintain asset levels for an upcoming retirement goal, or looking to add significantly to his or her portfolio
